Race History
As the JT Delaney Quality Handicap, this race was inaugurated in 1964.
Though settled now at Eagle Farm, the Kingsford-Smith Cup/BTC Cup race has moved around over the years. Doomben was used quite recently during renovations at Eagle Farm.
In 2017, this race was switched with the Doomben 10000 as the middle leg of Brisbane’s Winter Sprint Triple Crown. Some horses are also aimed towards the Stradbroke Handicap. The great Black Caviar won this race in 2011.
BTC Cup Race Results 2022
After a cracking finish, less than a length separated the first four home in the 2022 Kingsford-Smith Cup. The winning horse, Apache Chase, came from the 4 barrier and got home by less than a quarter-length. Final places and betting:
- Apache Chase (T: Desleigh Forster, J: Jim Byrne) – $12.
- Paulele (T: James Cummings, J: James McDonald) – $6.
- Eleven Eleven (T: Gregory Hickman, J: Hugh Bowman) – $15.
Apache Chase couldn’t reach those heights again in 2022. Paulele however went on to win a Group 1 race at Ascot in November.
