Saturday, February 19th sees the latest running of the Oakleigh Plate race. The event is staged at Caulfield Racecourse (click here to learn more about the horse races in Caulfield).

We have all the information you need including past winners, barrier stats and the history of the race.

Race History

The Oakleigh Plate is as much about tradition as it is about speed. This race has been on the calendar since way back in 1884.

For almost all of that time it’s been run at Caulfield. It was transferred to Flemington only during the War, while Sandown hosted the race in 1996 when Caulfield was under redevelopment.

These days the race is lauded as the leading sprint race at its Caulfield home. The Oakleigh Sprint is also the middle leg of the major sprinting races staged during the Autumn Racing Carnival in Melbourne. The Black Caviar Lightning and the Newmarket Handicap make up the other races.
