The Australian Guineas is one of the top events in the world of horse racing run for three-year-olds. We have the history of the race, results, draw stats and more.

Race History

Despite taking inspiration, and its name, from a race almost as old as the sport, the Australian Guineas is a relatively young race. Only on the calendar since 1986, it began as a Group 1 but was quickly upgraded to the top level.

The race was introduced at a mile. It was briefly increased to 2,000 meters from 1998-2000 but has since come back to 1600. Flemington Racecourse is the traditional home of the Guineas and has hosted all but one renewal.

Back in ’86, this event was initiated as the Australasian Guineas before changing its title to the sponsored Cadbury Guineas from 2005-2009. For a single year in 2010 it was known as the Crown Guineas, but now takes pride of place on the big day simply as the world-renowned Australian Guineas.
