Race History

The Blue Diamond Stakes race was inaugurated back in 1971, the first renewal being taken by Tolerance. Since then, it has emerged as one of the most important races on the calendar for two-year-olds.

The race is staged at Caulfield over 1200 meters, the weights being set. As one of only five Group 1 races for two-year-olds, it has always been held in high regard. Alongside the Golden Slipper, it provides a chance for the young horses to take part in a proper sprint.

The Blue Diamond Stakes has not been without its controversy down the years. Back in 2003, Roedean won the race for Mick Price but was later disqualified after a positive swab.
